Today we’re taking a look at the Nighthawk router line-up manufactured by Netgear. We’ll be comparing 3 different models, the entry-level AX3000, mid-range AX4200 and high-end AX6600, and go over its main features to see which one fits you the best. This way you’ll know exactly what to expect when buying one of the Nighthawk routers!
Starting off with the AX3000, the entry-level router from the three. Don’t let this ‘entry-level’ tag fool you though, as it still packs a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to performance and usability compared to other traditional every-day routers.
The AX3000 uses WiFi 6 and can reach speeds up to 3 GBPS (574 Mbps + 3603 Mbps with 5-Stream connection) while simultaneously being able to connect to 16 different devices at the same time. On the back you will find 5 gigabit ports with an extra USB 3.0 port, which you can use for external storage if needed. This router is also able to cover small to medium sized houses with special optimized antennas made for best WiFi performance.
Next up we have the AX4200, the mid-range version of our line-up. Using WiFi 6 as well, you’ll be able to reach speeds of up to 4.2 GBPS (600 Mbps + 2400 Mbps with 5-Stream connection) while being able to connect up to 25 different devices at the same time. Just like it’s smaller brother, it has a USB 3.0 port so you can connect various external devices for extra storage. On top of that, the AX4200 is able to cover the entirety of medium to large sized houses.
This router is also the first on our list that has Netgear armor built straight into it. Netgear developed its own system to keep you protected against cyber threats with their best-in-class data protection that has automatic firmware updates so you’re 100% protected at all times. This also allows you to give your guests separate access to your network for maximum safety.
Looking for the best? The AX6600 is the last and best router on our list, and there’s a good reason for it! Using WiFi 6, it can reach speeds up to 6.6 GBPS (1.2 + 4.8 Gbps + 600Mbps with 8-Stream connection) while being able to connect to 40 devices at the same time. It once again packs a USB 3.0 port at the back so you can connect various peripherals for easy access. Just like the previous model, the AX6600 also has the Netgear armor anti-cyber threat protection built into it.
On top of all these features, Netgear also built a special Nighthawk app to use alongside your router. With this app, you can easily set up your home WiFi network, customize your settings and even use voice commands to control your network. This allows you to control various things connected to your WiFi using Amazon Alexa and/or Google assistant!
Netgear developed a rock solid router line-up that packs all the good stuff, while giving you the option to choose between a few different models so you can pick what suits you the best. This is why we award all 3 routers with our Diamond Tones Award.
